This blog will be my personal journey to becoming a better artist. I always thought being a good artist was a talent you just had to be naturally born with. Growing up I thought I possessed that talent, for a kid my drawings were pretty good, definitely better than the average 5-10 year old. However, as I grew older I noticed virtually no improvement in my artwork. Since I was no longer getting praise for this “talent” and no longer felt like a prodigy my artwork become stale. Meanwhile, everyone around was getting better and better - even those who I had considered myself better than.

Since I was no longer good - I just stopped. Unfortunately, this was my mindset back then. I thought to myself “I guess I didn’t have that talent”. So to fill that hole within me, I followed tons of art pages, watched my friends grow, and wished I had what “they had”. It wasn’t until recently that I learned, being good at art isn’t a “talent”, or something that came “naturally”. It was a skill, and everyone had gotten better at it than me, while I had given up. I came to realize that people who tell you “I was just born with it”- weren’t, in fact just born with it. They had spent countless hours working on their respective crafts and had gone from terrible artwork to beauty. Honestly, maybe to them that didn’t feel like work so when asked they don’t have an answer.

My intention is to unpause that button and re-begin working on this skill I’ve always dreamed of having. Part of me wishes I had a buddy to go along on this journey with, so I want to be that buddy for others through this blog.

I’ll be sharing all the good, bad, and ugly. Through this blog, I want to keep myself accountable and finally work on a dream I’ve had since I was a child- to be an illustrator & animator, and not just any, but a good one. I want to look back on all these posts and see how much my artwork has developed throughout the years. So, I hope you can see yourself in me and come along on this journey!
